The Hitchcock-Butterfield Company began in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1996. J. Frederic & Vera Cohen, owners of Lamp & Lantern Store (now Lamps & More), saw a void in the retail home market and decided to expand their product line to meet this need.

Fred began his career as a territorial sales rep, and later expanded into retail with The Lamp & Lantern store. With the birth of The Hitchcock-Butterfield Company, he has further expanded his expertise into manufacturing.
